The Wat Pho, or “Temple of the Reclining Buddha,” is one of Bangkok’s most attractive temples. It is considered one of the oldest, largest, and most important temples in the city and is one of the six temples in Thailand that are of the highest grade of the first class Royal temples.
The temple is famous for its enormous gold-plated Reclining Buddha image. The image named Phra Phuttha Saiyat was built during the reign of King Rama III in 1832 and is 46 meters long and 15 meters high. It houses more than 1,000 Buddha images, more than any other Wat in Thailand, kept within the temple grounds.
In addition, Wat Pho in Bangkok Wat Pho is the birthplace of Thai massage and still serves as an important center for studying traditional medicine.
As for the dress code, visitors are always expected to dress appropriately at temples and state buildings throughout Thailand.
